Job summary

Pandektes in Copenhagen is seeking a backend engineer who loves shipping close to the product and shaping how users experience our legal AI platform. You’ll build the backend with Typescript and NestJS, integrate OpenAI-style AI features, and design scalable GraphQL APIs on PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM.

You’ll own features end-to-end from design to delivery. We’re a small, fast-growing team with a flat structure and international exposure.

Job description

We're looking for someone who enjoys working close to the product, who is passionate about what they do, curious and collaborative, and wants their technical decisions to directly shape how users experience our platform.

About Pandektes

Our mission is to rebuild legal research from the ground up. Lawyers still lose countless hours to fragmented sources, outdated systems, and databases that fight them at every turn. We're building the largest AI-powered legal database in the world to make that friction disappear.

We're a team of 40+ based in our Copenhagen HQ, Zurich, London, and Hamburg. We're a small team with high trust and flat structure. We move fast, argue our positions, and ship. If your input is good, it gets implemented - often within hours, not sprints.

We have has raised more than €4M, including a €2.9M seed round (Feb 2025) led by People Ventures, Interface Capital, and a strong bench of angels. We already serve 400+ customers across Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, and we're just getting started.

What you'll work on

• Build the backend for various user-facing features and data integrations

• Identifying the right problems to solve, focusing on meaningful outcomes, and using your experience to make trade-offs that have the highest impact on customers as fast as possible.

• Taking end-to-end ownership for features from start to finish from inputting into initial design and planning all the way through to implementation, testing, and delivery.

• Help in improving our API architecture to ensure scalability, maintainability, and optimal performance while integrating cutting-edge technologies and adhering to best practices.

• Keep our platform stable so we can continue to deliver a high-level of availability to our customers

• Scale our services so we can ingest larger volumes of data, more efficiently

Who you are

• You've built production-ready applications in Typescript with NestJS.

• Experience integrating AI technologies like OpenAI and Turbopuffer into production systems to build innovative, data-driven solutions.

• Strong understanding of GraphQL and database design, including complex querying with transactions, schema management with Prisma ORM and Postgres, and implementing advanced security measures such as row-level security for fine-grained data access control.

• Passion for solving challenging problems in the legal tech space, with a focus on building transparent and user-centric platforms with React.

• Self-starter and comfortable with ambiguity when navigating product challenges, and actively input into shaping product direction. You thrive in early ideation stages, share work-in-progress (such as drafts or MVPs) to gather feedback and actively seek others input.
