Job summary

Hamamatsu Photonics is seeking an Optical Engineer for Quantum Laser Systems to lead development, assembly and testing of specialized laser systems based on ultra-stable fiber lasers. You will collaborate with sales and support teams to translate customer needs into robust, scalable solutions.

The role requires a Master in photonics, strong English skills, and hands-on lab experience with lasers, including frequency stabilization and photonic integrated circuits.

Qualifications

• A relevant educational qualification (Master level) is required, preferably gained within a photonics research environment.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually, potentially globally.
• Deep understanding of lasers, light amplification, nonlinear frequency conversion, photonic integrated circuits, laser frequency metrology and stabilization (e.g. frequency combs).
• Hands-on lab expertise in free-space and fiber optics.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, assembly, and testing of custom laser system products and prototypes based on ultra-stable fiber lasers.
• Interface with sales and support teams to provide updates on product developments and technical advice on customer enquiries.
• Assist with after-sales support and repairs/upgrades on laser systems.
• Contribute to projects with top-tier quantum technology customers.
