Hamamatsu Photonics A/S in Denmark seeks a senior Specialist – Quantum Laser Systems to lead the development, assembly and testing of custom laser system products based on ultra-stable fiber lasers.

You will collaborate with sales, support, purchasing and manufacturing to ensure successful transfer of designs to production and will own several laser projects from requirements to deployment, delivering robust, manufacturable solutions.

The Role:

• As a senior member of our Koheras engineering team, you will lead the development, assembly, and testing of custom laser system products and prototypes based on ultra‑stable fiber lasers.
• You will work within a multi-disciplinary team and interface with sales, support, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure successful transfer of designs to production.
• You will own several laser projects among various customers and be responsible for delivering robust, manufacturable solutions from requirement capture all the way to deployment.

• Capture requirements from, and build deep understanding of customer applications in quantum computing and sensing.
• Further you will translate this understanding into complex and highly specialized fiber laser systems, including:
  • Light generation (seed lasers, amplifiers, frequency stabilization)
  • Light processing (frequency conversion, electro‑optical and acousto‑optical modulation, fiber Bragg gratings and more)
  • Light delivery (via our proprietary Photonics Crystal Fiber platform)
• Assure manufacturability and production scalability of laser systems aligned with ambitious customer roadmaps.
• Support and inspire the development of complex electronics control systems, including analog and digital communication backbones.
• Invent and inspire new technology development within fiber‑based optics, contributing to IP generation.

More About You:

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in science or engineering, preferably within a photonics research environment (ideally PhD level education)
• Multiple years of experience in photonics‑based quantum computing or sensing applications, ideally in an industrial setting (e.g., ion trapping, neutral atoms, photonic quantum computing, atom interferometry or similar)
• Proven ability to translate quantum application requirements into laser system specifications
• Deep understanding of the fundamental physics and technology around: Lasers Light amplification Non‑linear frequency conversion Photonic integrated circuits Laser frequency metrology and stabilization (e.g. frequency combs) (ideally on fiber‑based platforms)
• Expertise in light processing and modulation using electro‑optical and acousto‑optical technologies (ideally on fiber‑based platforms)
• Hands‑on lab expertise in free‑space and fiber optics
• Proven ability to manage and organize multiple concurrent engineering projects and work packages (ideally in the role of project manager)
• Proven ability to lead and supervise small project teams across disciplines
• Experience in programming (ideally in Python)
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually, potentially globally
