About ICIS

ICIS is part of Risk Solutions, a division of RELX Group, a FTSE 20 company with revenues of $11 billion in 2023 and an employee base of over 30,000 people across 40 countries. ICIS makes some of the world’s most important markets more trusted and predictable by providing data services, thought leadership and decision tools. We exist to help businesses in the energy, petrochemical and fertilizer industries make strategic decisions, mitigate risk, improve productivity, and capitalise on new opportunities. Thousands of decisions are taken across supply chains every day using our intelligence and we make this possible through a global presence that delivers the targeted, local insights customers need to achieve growth in this new world of meaningful data.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Team Lead Data Scientist for GenAI to join our Data Science team of 20+ in our analytics centre in Karlsruhe or our headquarters in London. This role is a unique opportunity to explore and shape the GenAI model landscape in a large data business with 20,000+ B2B users and rich proprietary content & data on global markets and forecasts which no other model has access to. Our vision is that through natural language, human decision makers can search, understand, visualize and summarise current global market trends as well as interrogate global data, connect with our numerical predictive models on future trends and forecasts, and derive personalised decision recommendations through Agentic AI. Your team is part of a cross-functional development group with technologists, UX researchers, product and data scientists that focuses on experimenting on and continuously optimizing the GenAI layer in our array of Data Science models behind already customer-facing GenAI & analytics products. You will be expected to continually learn and apply new skills.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, continuously evaluate and optimize model architectures to achieve our GenAI and Agentic AI vision in close collaboration with cross-functional team members and external development partners. Recommend & explore model design choices and options to optimise for result quality, domain knowledge context, speed, understandability, cost, stability etc.

  • Coordinate a small team of 3-5 Data Scientists hands-on on the execution of the product-led roadmap in close integration with software developers and engineers.

  • Align the backlog for GenAI with product manager(s), UX researchers and technology leaders. Contribute Data Science building blocks to the backlog and articulate the added value.

  • Work with other internal Data Science teams to connect GenAI solutions with other predictive & prescriptive data and models into a coherent and customisable customer experience.

  • Creatively identify, share and experiment on new model opportunities for internal/external business use cases. Analyse model usage and feed insights back into the development process.

  • Contribute to our 20+ Data Scientist community & culture by fostering team spirit, engagement, and sharing learnings & best practices.

Key Skills / Experience Required:

  • 3-5+ years industry experience in GenAI related technologies such as Deep Learning and NLP. Personal track record of success. In-depth knowledge of underlying concepts behind LLMs.

  • Initial experience in coordinating small teams and setting teams up for success. Achieving high team morale (Line management responsibility a plus).

  • Initial experience in project coordination with stakeholders outside Data Science.

  • Standard python machine learning & NLP techniques and popular libraries (e.g. Pytorch, Tensorflow, nltk, gensim, spacy).

  • Essential software development principles (modularisation, versioning e.g. with GIT, tests, understandable code).

  • Degree in a scientific field relevant to Data Science.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (in English).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agentic workflows and knowledge graphs.

  • Scrum and project management best practices.

  • Personal interest to learn about commodity markets and trading.

We offer:

  • A vibrant working environment in a dynamic, inclusive, ambitious, and committed team.

  • Our company is all about data & analytics and growing fast.

  • Connections with 200+ Data Scientists across RELX group.

  • Options to join on junior or senior level, a Data Science career track and development support.

  • Flexibility, loyalty, empowerment, and trust as part of our corporate culture.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. At ICIS, we are committed to Diversity and Inclusion, we have a leadership team who are 50% women and more than a third of our technology team are female.
