Salary guide: €85,000-€160,000 annually, depending on experience, plus equity

About the company:

Our client is a venture-backed German AI company helping businesses build, deploy and improve customer-facing voice agents. Its platform enables more natural conversations, replacing rigid phone menus and helping customers get useful answers without repeating themselves.

You’ll join a small team building the systems behind these conversations, with the opportunity to influence core infrastructure as the platform grows.

About the role:

If you enjoy figuring out why a distributed system breaks under pressure, making real-time software respond faster and exploring what AI models can actually deliver, this role offers plenty to work on.

You’ll own critical parts of the infrastructure behind AI voice agents, taking technical problems from investigation through implementation and production. The challenge is to build towards millions of daily calls while keeping conversations responsive and systems reliable.

You’ll have room to make architectural decisions, evaluate models and see how your work affects real customer interactions. Strong backend and distributed systems experience matters more than already being a voice AI specialist.

What you’ll get to build and influence:

• Design and improve the distributed systems supporting customer-facing AI voice agents
• Own critical infrastructure, from technical decisions through deployment and ongoing improvement
• Solve reliability, scalability and latency challenges in real-time customer conversations
• Evaluate AI models and understand their trade-offs in practical use
• Investigate production issues and turn what you learn into better systems
• Work closely with other engineers, including pairing to tackle unfamiliar problems
• Use AI tools to accelerate development, experimentation and problem-solving
• Help shape the platform as its customer needs and agent capabilities evolve

What we’re looking for:

• Strong hands-on software engineering skills and experience shipping production systems
• Experience building or debugging reliable, scalable distributed systems
• Practical understanding of real-time or low-latency infrastructure
• Evidence of taking substantial technical work from an unclear problem to a working solution
• The ability to explain your individual contribution and its impact
• Independent initiative demonstrated through projects, ventures or significant ownership at work
• A practical approach to balancing delivery speed, reliability and customer outcomes
• Regular use of AI tools and a willingness to explore unfamiliar technology
• A collaborative approach and comfort working closely with colleagues in person
• Willingness to work fully on-site in Berlin

Python is part of the core stack. Experience with voice AI, LLMs, speech recognition, speech synthesis or telephony would be valuable, but previous voice AI experience is not essential.

• Develop expertise at the intersection of distributed systems, real-time software and applied AI
• Make technical decisions with a direct connection to customer experience
• Work across engineering and model evaluation rather than a narrowly defined component
