Job summary

DigiTech Search Ltd. is seeking an engineering leader to own the Network Engineering function, guiding a distributed team across Europe. You will modernize the infrastructure with IaC (Terraform) and scale AWS networking while maintaining secure firewall operations.

You will mentor engineers, shape roadmaps, and drive proactive, automated networking across multi-region environments, with occasional travel to European hubs. Hamburg-based hybrid role offering relocation support.

• Oversee pan-European network footprint connecting on-prem data centres with multi-region AWS environments and 30+ European offices.
• Establish Infrastructure as Code (IaC) via Terraform as standard for automated provisioning and firewall management.
• Provide architectural guidance on enterprise firewall operations (Fortinet/FortiGate, Check Point, Palo Alto) and SD-WAN projects.
• Manage external partners and providers.

Job description

We are currently working on behalf of the internal IT service provider for an international financial services group, operating across more than 20 countries and committed to delivering high-performance, resilient digital infrastructure across all of its European entities.

At the moment, we are looking for an experienced engineering leader to take ownership of the Network Engineering function, leading an international, distributed team. In this role, you will act as an architectural mentor and leader, driving the shift from reactive operations toward proactive, automated Infrastructure as Code (IaC) across multi-regional cloud and enterprise on-premises networks.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Taking full disciplinary, organisational, and technical leadership for a distributed team of network and cloud engineers, steering mentorship, hiring, and team development.
• Driving the strategic and architectural modernisation of the core infrastructure, particularly scaling enterprise AWS networking (Transit Gateway, Gateway Load Balancer, Landing Zones, IPAM).
• Overseeing the pan-European network footprint connecting on-prem data centres in Hamburg to multi-region AWS environments and 30+ European office locations.
• Establishing and championing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) via Terraform as the operational standard for automated network provisioning and firewall rule management.
• Providing architectural guidance and sign-off on enterprise firewall operations (Fortinet/FortiGate, Check Point, Palo Alto) and active SD-WAN rollout projects.
• Managing external partners and providers

You will have a significant impact on the business by evolving a stable, business-critical network into a modern, automated platform without disrupting live financial services operations.

Inspiring the team to grow more proactive and self-organised, setting up clear technical roadmaps, and providing high-level architectural direction while empowering engineers to build.

The basic requirements are as follows:

• Strong track record of disciplinary people leadership, coaching, and line management within modern technical or infrastructure environments.
• Deep knowledge of cloud networking on AWS, including VPC design, Transit Gateway, Gateway Load Balancers, and Route 53.
• Solid background in enterprise firewalls (Fortinet/FortiGate, Check Point, or Palo Alto) alongside practical routing and SD-WAN concepts (IPSec, BGP).
• Experience driving, adopting, or assessing automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills at all levels, with the ability to bridge technical engineering and executive planning across international entities.
• Fluent English required (working team language); German language skills are a plus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to European hubs.
