Job summary

Pegel is seeking a risk-focused intern to join the Risk Control Function in Germany. The role emphasizes daily operational risk management, incident review, and supporting policy development within a flexible deployment strategy tailored to strengths and interests.

You will engage in risk profiling, RBC monitoring, and contribute to advanced risk frameworks such as stress testing and scenario analysis. Office location in Munich supports collaboration with an international team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or economics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in risk management within financial services.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and balance priorities.
  • Strong risk-oriented analysis and clear presentation of complex issues.
  • Proficiency in German and English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and develop day-to-day operational risk, incident, and RCSA frameworks, review incidents, maintain risk data integrity, and perform Check and Challenge routines for RCSA submissions.
  • Support risk profiling, strategy, policy development, and monitoring of RBC and risk limits; contribute to the annual risk inventory and risk profile.
  • Contribute to and monitor advanced risk frameworks, including stress testing, scenario analysis, and early-warning KRIs.
  • Facilitate the New Product Process lifecycle and governance, managing risk evaluation from pre-assessment to committee sessions and Management Resolutions.
  • Act as a contact for 1LoD and drive reporting, producing quarterly Risk Reports and monthly Risk Culture Reports for senior stakeholders.

Job description

This position is embedded within our Risk Control Function department, which comprehensively oversees both overarching Risk Governance and Non-Financial Risk Management. The responsibilities listed below reflect the broad spectrum of our department's mandate – your specific focus and deployment within this role will be handled flexibly, tailored to your individual interests, personal strengths, and current team capacities.

  • Conduct and continue to develop day-to-day operational risk, incident, and Risk Control Self Assessment (RCSA)frameworks, including reviewing reported incidents for accuracy, maintaining data integrity in the risk register, executing scheduled Control Testing, and performing framework-aligned "Check and Challenge" routines for RCSA submissions
  • Support comprehensive risk profiling, strategy, and policy development, continuously tracking the institution’s risk-bearing capacity (RBC), ensuring strict adherence to established risk limits, contributing to the annual risk inventory, and maintaining the overall risk profile
  • Contribute to and monitor advanced risk frameworks, including implementing the Operational Risk Stress Testing framework, executing Scenario Analysis programs to model hypothetical impacts, and tracking early-warning Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) over time
  • Facilitate and execute the New Product Process (NPP) lifecycle and governance, managing the risk evaluation from the pre-assessment phase through committee sessions, preparing Management Resolutions, and ensuring seamless framework integration for all new initiatives
  • Act as a contact person for the 1st Line of Defense (1LoD) and drive reporting, supporting them in assessing risks and defining corrective actions, while producing quarterly Risk Reports and monthly Risk Culture Reports for senior stakeholders
  • You successfully completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, finance, economics or equivalent
  • You gained at least 3 years experiences at a bank, asset manager or financial services company in (Operational) Risk Management, Audit or Compliance and you have knowledge of regulatory issues related to operational risks (CRR, MaRisk, DORA, SREP, EBA papers)
  • You are able to work in a time-sensitive environment and you are able to balance competing priorities
  • You have a strong ability for risk-oriented analysis and comprehensible presentation of complex issues
  • You have concise verbal and written communication skills in German and English
