Project Engineer - Electrical Engineering | Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

SR2 is partnering with an exciting, fast-growing organisation delivering large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Germany. We're looking for a Project Engineer specialising in Electrical Engineering to support the electrical design, planning, construction and commissioning of utility‑scale battery storage projects.
This is an opportunity to take ownership across the project lifecycle while contributing directly to Germany's energy transition.
What you'll be doing:
- Deliver electrical basic engineering for large-scale BESS projects, including grid connections at medium and high voltage
- Produce and review electrical layouts, circuit diagrams and single-line diagrams
- Complete electrical studies and designs using tools such as PowerFactory and Visio
- Specify and coordinate electrical packages covering: MV/HV cables, Substations, Switchgears, Transformers & the Battery systems
- Prepare technical specifications and tender documentation for external contractors
- Coordinate closely with DSOs/network operators, suppliers, EPC partners and internal project teams
- Support the development and review of protection concepts, grounding/earthing and lightning protection
- Contribute to grid connection and plant certification processes
- Provide technical support on construction sites, ensuring quality and safety requirements are maintained
- Support commissioning, testing and the successful handover of completed assets into operations
What we're looking for:
- Degree, vocational qualification or equivalent technical background in Electrical Engineering
- Around 3-5+ years' relevant professional experience
- Strong experience in electrical planning, engineering or installation
- Practical knowledge of medium-voltage systems is highly desirable
- Experience with BESS, renewable energy, substations, grid infrastructure or power systems would be advantageous
- Understanding of protection, transformers, switchgear, grid connections and/or plant certification
- Confident working with contractors, network operators and multidisciplinary stakeholders
- Strong organisational and problem-solving capability
- Fluent German and English
