We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the on-site construction and delivery of a large-scale energy infrastructure project in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The successful candidate will oversee the project from construction mobilisation through to commissioning and operational handover, ensuring safe, on-time and on-budget delivery while maintaining the required quality standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site teams, EPC contractors, construction schedules, budgets, risk assessments and contractual obligations. Working closely with the Transmission System Operator (TSO), engineering teams, local authorities and other key stakeholders, you will oversee project execution, grid connection coordination, health and safety compliance, quality control and commissioning activities. Reporting directly to the SPV Director, you will play a central role in ensuring the project meets its technical, commercial and operational objectives.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior project management professional with a minimum of eight years of experience delivering large-scale energy infrastructure or industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, large-scale solar PV or other grid-connected utility-scale projects, alongside strong EPC contract management and leadership skills. The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a major energy infrastructure project and contribute directly to its successful construction and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the on-site construction and delivery of the project, ensuring the project is completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Oversee project budgets, construction schedules, critical milestones, cost forecasts and contingency planning, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Manage relationships with EPC contractors, Transmission System Operators (TSOs), engineering consultants and local stakeholders to ensure effective project coordination.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations, construction schedules, quality standards and health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) requirements.
- Lead regular risk assessments, progress reviews and project reporting, providing weekly and monthly updates to the SPV Director.
- Oversee engineering and design reviews, ensuring technical requirements are met and interfaces between contractors and disciplines are effectively managed.
- Manage contractual variations, change orders and claims in accordance with agreed project procedures and delegated authority.
- Ensure compliance with construction permits, regulatory requirements and safety standards while maintaining relationships with local authorities, landowners and relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), identifying and resolving non-conformances throughout construction.
- Coordinate commissioning, grid energisation and performance validation to ensure successful project completion.
- Manage the handover to operations, including technical documentation, maintenance manuals, training, warranties and final project close-out.
Your Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Technology or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of project management experience within energy infrastructure or industrial projects.
- Proven experience delivering at least 3 large-scale capital expenditure projects from contracting and construction through to commissioning.
- Direct experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, large-scale solar PV or other grid-connected utility-scale projects.
- Strong understanding of EPC and/or FIDIC contract management from the project owner's perspective, including variations, claims and project handover.
- Working knowledge of German construction regulations, permitting processes and health, safety and environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and holding contractors accountable for performance.
- Excellent project management, organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage budgets, construction schedules and project risks.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness, with a disciplined approach to managing project scope, costs and delivery milestones.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate technical teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
