Project Manager | Commercial & Industrial Battery Storage | Germany | Hybrid or remote with regular travel to customer sites | Salary: €70,000 to €120,000 plus performance bonus, depending on experience | Type: Permanent, full time
About the company:
I am recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing European clean energy business that develops and delivers large-scale battery storage directly on customer sites. Their behind-the-meter solutions are built around the needs of industrial and commercial customers and integrated into existing site infrastructure, often alongside customer-owned solar generation. The current focus is heavy industry, particularly chemical and manufacturing sites.
The business is early stage and well backed, with leadership from some of the biggest names in the battery world. The team is around 35 people today and is planned to grow to more than 60 over the next 12 months.
About the role:
You will own behind-the-meter storage projects end to end for industrial and commercial customers. That starts with assessing the customer's site, energy demand and load profile, moves through building a technically and commercially viable solution, and runs all the way through contracting, delivery and commissioning.
This role combines project delivery, customer management and commercial responsibility in one seat. You will be the person the customer deals with, coordinating internal teams, EPC and O&M contractors, equipment suppliers, grid operators and permitting authorities behind you. As the business grows there is scope to build and lead a small project team.
What you will do:
- Drive behind-the-meter storage projects end to end, from first customer and site assessment through development, construction and commissioning
- Assess customer sites and energy infrastructure, including energy demand, load profiles, existing infrastructure and the technical and commercial feasibility of storage
- Coordinate grid connection, technical integration and permitting with customers, grid operators, authorities and external partners
- Lead customer and contract management, including developing and negotiating customer-specific commercial models
- Coordinate EPC, O&M and supply contracts
- Manage delivery across technical, commercial and legal workstreams, safely, on time and on budget
- Oversee installation, integration and commissioning of battery storage systems on live customer sites, through to handover into operation
- Manage schedules, budgets and risks across the lifecycle
- Work alongside the commercial team to build the project portfolio
- Help establish project management, reporting and risk practices as the business scales
What you will need:
Experience and knowledge
- Degree in engineering, energy, industrial engineering, business administration or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years managing and delivering complex energy infrastructure projects
- Hands-on experience with customer-sited energy projects, ideally behind-the-meter battery storage, C&I solar or industrial energy management
- Experience carrying projects from development through construction and commissioning
- Strong track record working directly with industrial or commercial customers in a combined technical and commercial capacity
- Experience coordinating complex stakeholder groups including customers, contractors, suppliers, grid operators and authorities
- Good understanding of contracting, EPC and O&M structures, project budgets, risk management, grid connection and permitting
- Solid grasp of the technical and commercial fundamentals of battery energy storage
- Experience with project financing is an advantage
- Fluent German and English, both essential
Skills and attributes
- Customer-focused, with a genuine enjoyment of building trusted client relationships
- Hands-on and entrepreneurial, willing to own the detail
- Strong project leadership across multiple workstreams
- Commercially minded, comfortable with the economics as well as the engineering
- Confident communicator and negotiator with customers, contractors and senior stakeholders
- Structured and pragmatic under pressure
- Comfortable building processes rather than following established ones
What is on offer
- €70,000 to €120,000 plus performance bonus (STI and LTI), depending on experience
- Flexible hybrid or remote working within Germany, plus travel to customer sites. No requirement to relocate
- High degree of ownership in a business that is still being built
- Flat hierarchies and fast decision-making
- International collaboration and career opportunitiesProcess
