Jobbeschreibung

UNIVERSITY OF REGENSBURG

The Faculty of Biology and Pre-Clinical Medicine invites applications for a

Professurship (W2) in Microbiology

Overview

To be filled at the earliest possible date under civil servant status.

Research Focus

Applicants (f/m/d) are expected to have an outstanding and internationally visible experimental research record in at least one of the following focus areas: biology or biotechnology of archaea, microbial RNA biology, imaging approaches for cellular and subcellular analysis of the cell biology of microorganisms, or research approaches addressing microbial degradation processes at the molecular or chemical level. Microbiological research in the Faculty of Biology and Preclinical Medicine at the University of Regensburg is characterized by internationally recognized expertise in archaeal research. This includes the German Archaeal Centre at the University of Regensburg which offers excellent opportunities for large-scale cultivation of microorganisms. Integration into the Regensburg Center for Biochemistry (RCB), the research focus “Ribonucleases” https://go.ur.de/rna-biologie and the Regensburg Center of Ultrafast Nanoscopy (RUN) also provides a wide range of opportunities for collaboration. Active participation in these research alliances is explicitly desired.

Teaching Responsibilities

In teaching, the subject of Microbiology is to be represented in its full breadth, in theory and practice, within the bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in Biology and Biochemistry and the teacher training programmes in Biology, as well as proportionally in the degree programmes in Human Medicine and Dentistry.

Qualifications

According to Art. 57 para. 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG), the requirements for appointment, in addition to the general conditions of public service, include at least a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and particular aptitude for academic work, which is generally demonstrated by the quality of the doctoral degree, as well as additional academic achievements. The latter correspond to a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements, which may also have been acquired outside the higher education sector or within the framework of a junior professorship. The leadership of a junior research group constitutes an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 para. 10 sentence 5 BayHIG.

Reconciliation of family life and academic career is of particular importance to the University of Regensburg. In order to fulfil its equal opportunities mandate and increase the proportion of female professors, the university explicitly encourages qualified female scientists to apply.

Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference in cases of essentially equal qualification.

The civil service requirements for appointment are governed by the provisions of the Bavarian Civil Service Act (BayBG) and the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG). Applicants should note the age limit specified in Art. 60 para. 3 BayHIG.
