Jobbeschreibung

At the Chair of Pharmaceutical Biology, we develop new therapeutic avenues and biomaterials that use principles found in nature to better treat bacterial infections. We are studying the communication between bacteria and cells to identify new therapeutic approaches for inflammatory diseases.

Our research group currently consists of four doctoral and one postdoctoral researcher, two scientists, three technical staff, and a chair office (www.pharmbio.nat.fau.de ). We are part of the Department Biology, a lively academic environment covering various aspects of modern biological research.

We offer an attractive and multidisciplinary workplace in a working group in the area of innovative pharmaceutical-biological research. Our laboratories have only just been extensively renovated, and provide a very modern experimental infrastructure with state-of-the‑art research equipment.

The PharmBio group benefits from a flat hierarchy and lively scientific discussions. In our research environment, we support each other and get along very well on a personal level. We regularly carry out joint activities such as canoe trips, museum visits and New Year’s celebrations to stimulate social and scientific interactions.

Benefits: We Have a Lot To Offer
  • Regular promotion to the next level and increase in salary pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement for the public service of the German Länder (TV-L) or remuneration pursuant to the Bavarian Public Servants Remuneration Act (BayBesG) plus an additional annual bonus
  • 30 days annual leave at five working days per week with additional free days on December 24 and 31
  • Occupational pension scheme and asset accumulation savings scheme
  • Excellent support during the academic qualification phase
  • Systematic career development in collaboration with the Graduate Center
  • Thorough onboarding process with a dedicated team
  • Joint team activities
  • Subsidized food and drinks in our student restaurants
  • Place of work within comfortable walking distance of public transport
  • Family-friendly environment with childcare options, also during school holidays

We are looking for a responsible, highly self‑motivated and structured candidate to work on a new ERC Proof‑of‑concept project (https://www.fau.eu/2026/07/news/research/three-erc-proof-of-concept-grants-for-fau/ ). The aim of this project is to explore the scientific and commercial value of a biomimetic nanocarrier as therapeutic avenue against bacterial infections.

For this PoC project, the candidate should embark on the following two tasks:

  • Full responsibility for experimental work in the further development of our biomimetics, as well as their scalable production and characterisation using infection models
  • Completing additional training courses through the FAU Start‑up Programme, and establishing commercial and scientific contacts with interested partners
