Job summary

Jena University Hospital in Jena, Germany invites applications for an advanced research position focused on perturbation phosphoproteomics under the ERC Starting Grant project PerturbPhos. You will develop ultra-sensitive MS-based methods and contribute to high-dimensional studies of how drugs alter tumor proteomes in primary cells.

The role requires a PhD and hands-on experience with MS-based proteomics, data analysis in R/Python, and strong written and spoken English.

Qualifications

  • PhD in (bio)chemistry, molecular biology, systems biology, or a related field.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical skills in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, ideally with hands-on experience in low-input phosphoproteomics.
  • Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture and sample preparation for MS analysis.
  • Ability to independently develop and troubleshoot MS-based proteomics workflows.
  • Prior experience with clinical patient material and/or characterizing small molecule drugs is desired.
  • Proficiency in R or Python for analyzing omics datasets, including statistical analysis and integration of multiple datatypes.
  • Strong track record of scientific excellence (e.g., high-quality first-author publications), rigorous research practice, and commitment to research integrity.
  • Strong ability work and communicate effectively in interdisciplinary teams (clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians).
  • Strong scientific writing and presentation skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Make key contributions to the ERC Starting Grant funded project “PerturbPhos” (Grant agreement ID: 101222284), developing ultra-sensitive MS-based phosphoproteomics technologies to study how drugs affect a patient's tumor proteome.
  • Build and optimize a scalable phosphoproteomics platform tailored to high-dimensional perturbation experiments of primary cells.
  • Analyze large-scale (phospho)proteomics datasets using R or Python-based computational tools to integrate prior knowledge and characterize drug-induced phosphorylation changes.
  • Work and communicate efficiently across inter-professional teams.
  • Disseminate project results through presentations and manuscripts.
