Role Overview
The Director Portfolio Management is responsible for leading the portfolio management function of Iberdrola Energie Deutschland GmbH. The role encompasses building and managing a high-performing team, developing and optimizing portfolio strategies, managing complex contractual and billing processes, ensuring robust financial oversight, and integrating renewable assets into the sales portfolio. The position is pivotal in balancing risk, optimizing energy portfolios, ensuring financial transparency, and enabling competitive, customer-centric electricity supply products in the German market.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop the portfolio management team in alignment with company strategy.
- Drive recruiting, talent development, coaching, and teambuilding activities.
- Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Portfolio Strategy & Optimization
- Define and implement processes for German portfolio management in close coordination with Sales, Operations, and Global Energy Management.
- Lead Day-Ahead forecasting of the electricity sales portfolio, including advanced machine learning and data-driven approaches.
- Develop and execute strategies for portfolio optimization, including backtesting, risk control, and automation.
- Manage risk pricing for balancing energy, risk surcharges, and customer-specific contracts.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses and business case evaluations, especially in the context of new renewables assets and innovative energy products.
Contract & Asset Management
- Oversee contract management processes, including power sales agreements, bilateral contracts, and structured products.
- Lead contract implementation and integration of renewable energy assets into the sales portfolio.
- Support the design and execution of customer-specific contractual solutions in close collaboration with Sales and Legal.
Billing Process Design & Implementation
- Design and implement complex billing processes and ensure alignment with regulatory and operational requirements.
- Lead system and process integration for billing across German operations and Iberdrola’s global functions.
- Ensure robustness, efficiency, and compliance of billing workflows in collaboration with Operations and external service providers.
Financial Oversight
- Calculate, monitor, and report wholesale margins across the sales and trading portfolio.
- Oversee the monthly closing process in close collaboration with Controlling and Finance.
- Lead the quarterly budget and forecasting cycle, including variance analysis, performance tracking, and corrective action planning.
- Provide management with transparent reporting on portfolio performance, risks, and profitability.
Systems, Tools & Outsourcing
- Lead the conception, tendering, selection, and implementation of portfolio management IT tools.
- Oversee business process outsourcing projects in operations and billing, ensuring efficiency and compliance in Germany and Spain.
- Ensure robust data management and system integration with Iberdrola global functions.
Risk & Market Management
- Manage portfolio risk assessment, controlling, and reporting.
- Oversee positions management and tranche lock-in strategies.
- Maintain and expand market access in close cooperation with Global Energy Management.
- Represent Iberdrola’s strategic interests within EFET Germany and other relevant associations.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as key interface with Iberdrola’s Global Energy Management in Spain, ensuring alignment and know-how transfer.
- Collaborate with Sales and Operations on product design, pricing strategies, contract structures, and risk evaluation.
- Represent portfolio management towards customers, partners, regulators, and internal senior stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- University degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in energy portfolio management, trading, risk management, or related areas.
- Proven leadership experience, including team building and cross-functional project management.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep understanding of energy markets, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
- Strong knowledge of forecasting methodologies, data analytics, and IT system implementation.
- Proven track record in contract management and integration of renewable assets into customer portfolios.
- Expertise in complex billing process design and implementation.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in wholesale margin tracking, monthly closings, and budget oversight.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with experience in EFET or comparable frameworks.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability and problem-solving mindset.
- Fluency in German and English required; Spanish proficiency is an advantage.
