Job description

Huawei's Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

Audiovisual Technology Lab in Huawei Munich Research Center is developing innovative technologies on media sensing, processing, coding, and computer vision. New international image coding standard – JPEG AI – is fully based on neural-networks. The great progress in end-to-end AI based video codec development was achieved recently. Different aspects of E2E AI image and video codec development are in focus of Audiovisual technology Lab.

To support our research activities, we are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated PhD candidate (m/f) who will contribute to the research and development of end-to-end AI based image and video coding solution. The PhD candidate has the possibility to attend the international conference and present the developed technologies to the international standardization community. You will be inserted into an international and experienced team of researchers.

Your mission

• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of video compression;

• Research on training of learnable algorithms of video coding for human and machine consumption;

• Research on innovative algorithms in the field of artificial intelligent in general;

• Implement the innovative algorithms on a reference software;

• Generate papers, technical reports.

Your areas of expertise

• You have recently completed or will soon complete your master studies in electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, mathematics or physics

• You have a deep interest in the topics related to media compression and artificial intelligent

• Good understanding of visual quality assessment and perceptual quality optimization is a plus.

• You enjoy working in a team and you like to collaborate with researchers to develop creative solutions

• You are fluent in English (written and spoken)

• Understanding for basic principle of CNN structure and training

• Excellent software skills
