ficonTEC Service GmbH in Germany is offering a 6-month full-time Master’s Internship in Optical Metrology. You will work with state-of-the-art optical measurement systems and test benches, supporting R&D and Operations to ensure high-quality components before production.

The role provides hands-on experience in industrial optical metrology, mentoring from experienced engineers, and opportunities to continue as a Master’s Working Student up to 80 hours per month after completion.

Qualifikationen

  • Enrolled in a Master’s degree in a technical field (Physics/Optical Eng/Photonics/EE/ME/Mechatronics).
  • Strong interest in optical systems and metrology.
  • Be careful, reliable and capable of repeatable work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Aufgaben

  • Assist in inspection and qualification of components using optical metrology equipment.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Operations to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Document findings and maintain inspection records.
  • Support testing benches, calibration, and data collection.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of inspection procedures.
  • Contribute to long-term projects and thesis-related activities.

Your Qualifications
Required
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong interest in optical systems, precision measurements and metrology
  • Careful and detail-oriented, with a high level of reliability and commitment to accurate, repeatable work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good written and spoken English.
Preferred
  • Hands‑on laboratory experience with optical measurement systems or scientific instrumentation
  • Knowledge of optics, imaging systems, cameras, lasers, spectroscopy, interferometry, or related technologies.
  • Experience with data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Basic understanding of quality management principles and statistical evaluation of measurement data.
  • German language skills are an advantage.
About this role & responsibilities

In this role, you will support the inspection and qualification of incoming components using advanced optical measurement systems and dedicated test benches. Working closely with experts from R&D and Operations, you will gain hands‑on experience in industrial optical metrology and precision measurements within a high-tech photonics environment. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring the quality and reliability of critical components before they enter production.

  • Perform optical and functional inspections of incoming components using state‑of‑the‑year optical test benches and metrology equipment.
  • Evaluate measurement results against technical specifications and acceptance criteria and document findings
  • Identify and report non-conforming components and support root‑cause investigations where required.
  • Prepare test samples and maintain accurate inspection and measurement records.
  • Perform routine verification, calibration checks, and basic maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of inspection methods, test procedures, and documentation processes.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D and Operations teams to ensure an efficient and reliable incoming goods inspection process.
