We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Master thesis in the field of automated driving and sensor fusion. Our team researches and develops cutting‑edge perception and fusion strategies to advance autonomous driving technologies. As part of your thesis, you will support us in exploring robust and efficient solutions for real‑world deployment of multi‑sensor fusion using state‑of‑the‑art machine learning methods.

What awaits you?

  • You will conduct an in-depth literature review on Transformer architectures, multi‑modal fusion, and robust perception for automated driving.
  • You support experimental evaluation of high‑level fusion approaches using public and BMW multimodal datasets.
  • You help select and develop suitable Transformer‑based fusion models for multi‑sensor inputs.
  • You explore efficiency strategies to enable low‑latency deployment on in‑vehicle hardware.
  • You assist in evaluating accuracy and robustness in simulated and real‑world driving scenarios.
  • Collaboration with an experienced team of software developers and ML engineers at the Autonomous Driving Campus in Unterschleißheim is part of your tasks.
  • You ensure that the thesis is supervised by a university.

What should you bring along?

  • Studies in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics or a related field with focus on machine learning, deep learning or artificial intelligence.
  • Strong understanding of Transformer‑based models and attention mechanisms.
  • Experience with sensor fusion concepts is a plus.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python, PyTorch and C++; experience with modern development tools.
  • Ability to support independently and as part of a team; proactive in sharing ideas and iterating on solutions.
  • Willingness to collaborate with university supervisors and adapt to project requirements.
  • Good English skills; German is a plus.
