Mandatory Internship in the Programming Department

Mandatory Internship Program (m/f/d)
40th Braunschweig International Film Festival | Full-time (40 hours/week)

Would you like to see how one of Northern Germany’s largest film festivals works behind the scenes? Are you interested in (film) cultural events and the communication of film content, and would you like to gain practical experience that goes far beyond the classroom? Then join our team!

From November 9–15, 2026 the 40th Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF) will take place. With more than 25,000 attendees, around 250 film screenings, and approximately 250 international guests from the film and media industry, BIFF is one of the most significant public film festivals in Northern Germany. In addition to showcasing new European cinema, the festival places a special focus on promoting emerging talent.

We are looking for a dedicated student to assist with festival preparation and execution for a paid mandatory internship in the programming .

What to Expect

With us, you’re not just a spectator—you’re an active part of the festival. You’ll gain exciting insights into the programming department of a major international film festival and contribute to a wide variety of festival formats at different stages of preparation and execution. You’ll gain exciting insights into the film industry through direct contact with international distributors, film distributors, and production companies, and you’ll learn about the various processes involved in running a festival. This will provide you with valuable hands‑on experience in the programming department of an international festival.

Your responsibilities:
  • Assisting with programming
  • Coordinating the festival trailer and various video clips for the press conference and awards ceremony
  • Coordinating press materials for the films
  • Assisting with the creation of the program booklet (journal)
  • Supporting the organization of industry events (panels, discussions, workshops)
  • Assisted with promoting the films (target audience outreach)
  • Collaborating on and organizing the university open house “ENCOURAGE Campus Connections”
  • Collaborating on and organizing school events
  • Independently organizing events during festival week
  • Assistance with coordinating and supporting the juries
  • Maintaining and managing data in the “Eventival” festival software
What you bring to the table:
  • A currently enrolled student looking for a required internship
  • Ideally, you are studying film, media, cultural, or communication studies, or a related field in the humanities or cultural studies
  • A strong interest in film, cinema, and the international festival scene
  • Excellent organizational skills and a structured, meticulous approach to workEnjoy working in a team and have strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
