RP Global is looking for a technically driven High Voltage (HV) & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Engineer to support the development, implementation, and operation of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Europe.
This exciting opportunity combines expertise in high-voltage electrical infrastructure, substations, grid connection engineering, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will work across both stand-alone and hybrid renewable energy projects, supporting project development, construction, commissioning, and asset optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
High Voltage Grid Connection & Substations
- Lead engineering activities related to MV/HV substations and grid connection infrastructure
- Assess grid connection opportunities and determine optimal technical solutions
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, protection systems, control concepts, cable routing, grounding systems, and grid studies
- Coordinate with transmission system operators (TSOs), distribution network operators (DSOs), EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers
- Support permitting and grid connection application processes
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Lead engineering activities for utility-scale BESS projects
- Define battery storage sizing and technical concepts
- Review BESS layouts, PCS integration, EMS systems, SCADA interfaces, and fire safety solutions
- Support technical due diligence and lender requirements
- Prepare tender packages and evaluate suppliers
- Participate in technical discussions and contract negotiations
Project Implementation
- Review engineering documentation and issue designs for construction
- Support construction and commissioning activities
- Develop engineering standards, technical requirements, and best-practice documentation
- Assist with energisation activities and commercial operation milestones
Asset Management Support
- Investigate operational issues relating to substations, transformers, protection systems, grid disturbances, and battery storage assets
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Contribute to asset optimisation and operational improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in HV engineering, substations, grid connections, or renewable energy infrastructure
- Experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Experience supporting engineering, procurement, and construction activities
