Head of Electronics – Berlin (Full-Time, On-Site)
Our client is an innovative medical device company based in Berlin, developing next-generation diagnostic technology at the intersection of optoelectronics, embedded systems, and precision analog design. As they scale their engineering function, they are looking for a Head of Electronics to lead the electronic design team and take ownership of the electronic architecture behind their flagship device.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to stay close to the technology while building and directing a high-performing team of circuit designers and embedded developers.
What you'll do:
- Lead and grow a team of circuit designers and embedded developers (FPGA and MCU)
- Stay hands-on in design and testing, working across projects from single PCBs to large integrated systems
- Create project plans in collaboration with the program manager, and guide the team on technical direction and trade-offs
- Own the embedded system architecture at both hardware and software level, optimising for system performance
- Ensure device compliance with IEC 60601
- Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams — physics, software, and mechanical engineering
- Manage external electronic systems projects and support leadership in shaping the technical roadmap
What you'll bring:
- PhD or MSc in Electronics Engineering or an adjacent field, with several years of team leadership experience
- Proven experience with IEC 60601 compliant systems (medical device background)
- Embedded systems development experience (HDL and C), EMC development and testing cycle experience
- Strong understanding of optoelectronics and solid‑state devices (photodiodes, lasers), analog design expertise for ultra‑low noise baseband applications, and signal processing experience across continuous and discrete domains
- Fluent English; German a plus, not required
On offer:
- Real end-to-end ownership of the electronics function, and the chance to build and lead your own team
