Job summary

Flight Centre Travel Group in Berlin is seeking a Financial Controller to strengthen controls, ensure accurate financial reporting, and manage month-end close for Germany and the Netherlands.

The role requires a degree in business administration or economics, several years of controlling experience in an international setting, and strong knowledge of HGB and IFRS. Proficiency in German and English (Dutch a plus) with MS Excel and MS Dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust financial controls in Germany and the Netherlands.
• Uphold group accounting standards and ensure accuracy of records.
• Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve issues.
• Guarantee timely close of the Trial Balance (Day 4 close).
• Support regulatory reporting and external audits.
• Collaborate with finance teams to improve efficiency.
• Produce timely daily, weekly and monthly reports with insights.
• Generate ad-hoc analyses with actionable recommendations.
• Post accruals, prepayments, deferred income and provisions.

We are looking for a skilled professional to join the team as our Financial Controller in Berlin, Germany.

What you will be doing?

• Strengthening Financial Controls – Develop, implement, and maintain robust financial controls in Germany and Netherlands to minimize write-offs, enhance cost management, and safeguard revenue.
• Ensuring Accuracy & Compliance – Uphold group accounting standards and policies, ensuring all financial records are precise and compliant.
• Owning Balance Sheet Reconciliations – Conduct monthly reconciliations, taking proactive steps to resolve issues and maintain financial integrity.
• Managing Financial Close – Guarantee the timely closure of the Trial Balance, hitting deadlines with precision (Day 4 close).
• Regulatory & Audit Support – Assist in regulatory reporting and collaborate with external auditors to ensure smooth processes.
• Driving Efficiency – Work closely with other finance teams to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency across the department.
• Delivering Insightful Reporting – Produce accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports, ensuring they are both timely and insightful for decision-making.
• Providing Actionable Analysis – Generate ad-hoc reports that not only present data but also offer clear recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Owning Period-End Accounting Entries – Calculate and post accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and provisions for Germany and the Netherlands

• Education: Completed degree in business administration or economics.
• Work experience: Several years of experience in controlling, preferably in an international company.
• Knowledge: Solid expertise in financial accounting according to HGB and IFRS.
• Software: Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel. Experience with MS Dynamics is desirable.
• Language skills: Proficient in German and English (C2 level); Dutch is a plus.
• Personal skills: Strong affinity for numbers, structured working style, accuracy, reliability, and team spirit.
