Energy Storage System (ESS) Engineer - Germany

Join to apply for the Energy Storage System (ESS) Engineer - Germany role at Sungrow Europe.

Overview

This is a first-class opportunity to join Sungrow Power EMEA as a principal engineer, specializing in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within our ESS technical team based in Germany. You will focus on technical design, customized ESS solutions, and support the delivery of energy storage projects, primarily BESS, while supporting Sungrow’s presence and growth in the European market. Additionally, you will assist with solar PV, wind, and other renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality technical advisory for pre-sales activities.
• Manage projects and coordinate between engineering disciplines (electric, mechanical, civil, control schemes).
• Contribute to technical assessments, feasibility studies, and integration with other energy sources.
• Review and improve project designs and specifications.
• Handle specifications, tendering, negotiation, and selection of BESS plants.
• Support due diligence and assist customers and lenders through financial closure, liaising with legal and financial advisors.
• Knowledge of renewable generation connection studies and PCS performance approval is advantageous.
• Develop ESS technical specifications compliant with European regulations and international standards (IEC/IEEE).

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably electrical).
• Experience with BESS technology, ideally with European and international exposure.
• Deep knowledge of BESS technologies and emerging market trends.
• Experience advising investors, project developers, and in BESS plant design.
• Background in developing and delivering solar PV or hybrid projects.
• Proven communication skills with clients and project teams (utilities, EPC, etc.).
• Fluent in English and German (C1 level or higher).
