Job summary

Welthungerhilfe looks for an Emergency Response Teamlead to coordinate rapid response efforts and deploy the emergency team across internal and external partners in disasters. You will craft response concepts to support humanitarian strategy and help implement a standardized crisis monitoring system.

The role requires leadership of the emergency team, strategic development, and effective representation of WHH in relevant forums.

Qualifications

• University degree in humanitarian action, disaster management, international development or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional and management experience in humanitarian settings.
• Experience developing and implementing emergency response strategies and SOPs.
• Strong networking and representation experience with humanitarian actors.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Emergency Response team and activities.
• Develop strategic direction, ensure quality standards and set priorities.
• Advise humanitarian stakeholders on emergency issues.
• Coordinate responses with country offices and partners.
• Ensure 24/7 on-call coverage within 48 hours in collaboration with management.
• Develop and update SOPs, guidelines, materials and templates.
• Represent the organization at emergency-related conferences and forums.
• Serve as main focal point on emergency response topics.

Emergency Response Teamlead* in Bonn , Berlin

The position is to be filled by January 1, 2027, with a contract duration of two years as a parental cover. Employment location will be Bonn/Berlin, Germany. The position is paid according to Salary Group 10.

As Emergency Response Teamlead, you are responsible for the coordination of emergency response approaches and the deployment of the emergency response team at internal and external level in case of a disaster. You will develop and implement emergency response concepts to support the humanitarian strategy and will work on the implementation and further development of a standardized crisis monitoring system.

Your Responsibilities

• Leading and coordinating the Emergency Response team
• Strategic development of the team, assurance of quality standards and setting of priorities within the team
• Advisory for all relevant humanitarian stakeholders and function holders in Welthungerhilfe on emergency issues
• Coordination of emergency responses with WHHs Country Offices and / or in collaboration with other humanitarian organisations
• In coordination with the management - ensure the 24/7 on-call response of the Humanitarian Directorate within 48 hours
• Development and updating of Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, minimum requirements, information materials, tolls and templates, in accordance with current standards and needs in international humanitarian action
• Representation of the organisation at emergency-relevant conferences and in relevant forums
• Act as main focal point in the organisation for all emergency response related topics

Your profile

• A university or polytechnic degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian action, disaster management or international development
• A minimum of 5 years professional and management experience
• Experience in the development and implementation of strategies
• Experience in the initiation and implementation of complex emergency measures
• Experience in humanitarian networking and representation
• Willingness to identify and work on new topics relevant to humanitarian action
• Willingness to (short-term) missions in connection with emergency response operations
• Excellent communication skills in English; French and German language skills would be an advantage
