The research group led by Prof. Sabrina Büttner within the Institute of Integrative Cell Biology and Physiology in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Münster is seeking to fill the position of a

for a project within the Collaborative Research Center ‘Dynamic cellular interfaces’ (https://www.uni-muenster.de/SFB1348/en/index.html). The project will be focussed on molecular mechanisms governing membrane organization and plasticity. The position will be filled as soon as possible for a fixed term of 3 years, with the possibility of extension. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

The successful candidate will join the research team of Prof. Sabrina Büttner at the Institute of Integrative Cell Biology and Physiology to investigate different aspects of lipid metabolism, membrane organization and organelle contact sites during cellular aging and metabolic adaptation. A special focus will be on lipid droplet biology and lipid flux at lipid droplet-organelle contact sites using the model system yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). You will be offered a wide range of opportunities for creative and innovative work applying state-of-the-art methodologies.

  • Research on membrane organization and membrane contact sites
  • Work in an international group of molecular and cell biologists
  • Application of methodologies ranging from flow cytometry, different imaging techniques, protein biochemistry and lipid biology to the analysis of cell viability, stress tolerance and lifespan.
  • Participation in the maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Documentation and presentation of results at scientific conferences
  • A completed scientific university degree (Master’s degree or comparable) in the biological sciences (such as biology, molecular biology, biomedicine, biochemistry or life sciences).
  • Expertise with genetics and cell biology in yeast (S. cerevisiae)
  • Expertise with high resolution imaging
  • Experience with protein biochemistry is an advantage
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and good communication and teamwork skills are essential
  • A good command of written and spoken English is required
