Job description

The Franconian International School (FIS) in Erlangen, southern Germany, is a progressive international school serving the diverse community of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. We are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Curriculum / IB DP to co-lead curriculum implementation and to lead programme implementation and development in the Diploma Programme. The candidate will be a member of the Extended Leadership Team.

Deputy Head of Curriculum / IB DP

Starting: August 1, 2027

Responsibilities:

• Be highly visible and supportive inside and outside classrooms and at school events
• Ensure that IB mandated policies are reviewed, understood and followed consistently by all stakeholders
• Lead on the tracking of year group progress and collaborate with the pedagogical leadership team on suitable action
• Support Head of Curriculum with the vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum for respective curricular areas
• Support Head of Curriculum with the planning of the overall curriculum
• Support Head of Curriculum with the implementation of curriculum – learning, teaching and assessment
• Support Head of Curriculum with the evaluation of curriculum (analysis of data to evaluate and develop the quality of learning and teaching)
• Support Head of Curriculum with overviewing, developing and implementing alternative pathways in grades 11 and 12
• Communicate with all stakeholders in relation to the above matters
• Be the named school ‘DP Coordinator’
• Lead continued DP development at the school in close liaison with IB Continuum Coordinator and all stakeholders, in alignment with FIS values and guiding statements as well as IB philosophy, programme standards and practices
• In liaison with the IB Continuum Coordinator and other IB Programme Coordinators plan the long-term development of the DP within the school
• Together with the IB Continuum Coordinator, monitor the alignment with requirements and expectations in IB Programme, standards and practices
• Co-lead with IB Continuum Coordinator on DP evaluation
• Manage the post-examination administrative requirements, such as availability during exam results publication week and follow up communication
• Coach and lead curricular leaders and teachers in the understanding and implementation of the DP in their curricular areas
• Lead, support and plan rich ongoing professional learning opportunities for staff, to support the development and implementation of the DP including guiding new staff during their induction
• Advise teachers on participation in appropriate DP courses
• Liaise with Head of Educational Administration regarding academic prerequisites and course choices
• Support the administration of IB mandated assessments
• Keep well-informed of current developments in the DP
• Communicate with all stakeholders in relation to the above matters

Teaching

• Teach and manage the educational program relevant to subject and grade level(s) based on the FIS curriculum and as required by the Head of School

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, curricular leaders and senior leadership

The role receives substantial support from the IB DP Examinations Coordinator as well as Examinations and Academic Operations Officer. They are responsible for the administrative side of DP coordination:

• Registration of DP candidates
• Organization of mock and formal DP assessments including examinations and invigilation
• Post-examination administration, such as downloading exam relevant reports from IBIS and making them available to curricular leaders and teachers
