This replacement post is an opportunity to join an expanding dynamic cellular pathology service, and develop your specialist diagnostic and research interests with the enthusiastic support of clinical colleagues. The successful candidate will join a team of 20 consultants working in purpose-built laboratory facilities in modern hospitals, with a digital service at an advanced stage of development. The department provides a cellular pathology service to MTW as well as Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. Our varied workforce includes two consultant biomedical scientists (reporting GI and gynaecological pathology), a molecular pathology clinical scientist, two cut-up practitioners and one trainee cut-up practitioner. You'll have the opportunity to report, participate in and develop molecular testing in various specialties with a dedicated molecular team. Applicants must be on the specialist register for Cellular Pathology or be within six months of CCT at the date of interview. The job description is subject to Royal College approval.

Main duties of the job

• The commissioned Cellular Pathology Genomic Centre for Kent & Medway providing a centralised advanced diagnostic and predictive molecular testing service.
• A large breast and GI HER-2 testing service (approx. 3000 pa) with FISH provided on-site by senior scientists using a new digital solution for fluorescent scanning and reporting (Bioview).
• The central provider for PD-L1 testing across a number of specialties.
• The host for RCPath and UKAS accredited South East General Histopathology EQA Scheme.
• A postmortem examination service with interest in teaching, provided from Tunbridge Wells Hospital with approx. 600 postmortems performed for HMC.
• A research-active department

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date has been agreed. As part of your induction, you will be required to attend face-to-face training sessions and/or complete e-learning modules relevant to your role. If you have previously worked for another NHS organisation before joining Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW), we can transfer eligible mandatory training records where appropriate, helping to avoid unnecessary duplication of learning.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration
• Specialist Registration - Portfolio pathway candidates must be on the Specialist Register at the time of interview
• FRCPath or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

• Subspecialty interest in skin, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, breast, urological or head and neck pathology.

Experience Essential

• Experience working as a Histopathologist in an NHS organisation, or equivalent, at Specialist Grade level or above, or current ST5 trainee approaching CCT
• Evidence of independent reporting and MDT presentation.

Desirable

• Consultant-level experience.
• Evidence of digital pathology validation and reporting.

Skills Essential

• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

• Leadership or management experience.
