Automation Engineer (m/f/d) – PLC Programming & Commissioning
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Automation Engineer with strong PLC programming experience to support the development, implementation, and commissioning of custom automation and control solutions for industrial applications.
This role combines software-oriented PLC development with practical involvement in commissioning and system optimisation. It is well suited to engineers who enjoy structured problem‑solving and working close to production environments.
Your Responsibilities
- Development and programming of PLC control software for industrial automation systems
- Implementation of machine sequences, interlocks, safety functions, and diagnostics
- Configuration and adaptation of operator interfaces and visualisation systems
- Participation in commissioning activities, both internally and on customer sites
- Analysis and resolution of faults during testing and operation
- Collaboration with electrical design, mechanical engineering, and project management
- Preparation of technical documentation, function descriptions, and test reports
- Support of system upgrades, retrofits, and optimisation projects
Your Qualifications
- Technical education or degree in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field
- Proven experience as an Automation Engineer or PLC Programmer
- Practical knowledge of Siemens PLC environments (e.g. S7 series)
- Experience working with TIA Portal and/or STEP 7
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g. PROFINET, PROFIBUS)
- Structured and maintainable programming style
- Willingness to travel occasionally for commissioning and service assignments
- Native German speaker or fluent German at C1–C2 level (mandatory)
- Basic English skills for technical coordination and documentation
- Siemens PLCs (S7-1200 / S7-1500 and legacy systems)
- TIA Portal / STEP 7
- HMI and machine visualisation systems
- Industrial fieldbus and Ethernet-based communication
