About the Role

We are looking for an Application Specialist – EMEA to join our technical team in Cologne, Germany.

The Application Specialist will provide technical application support to customers and our Sales & Marketing team, helping to ensure that Alps Chemicals' dyes and colorant solutions are effectively evaluated, tested and applied in customer applications.

The role will involve working in the Cologne laboratory as well as visiting customer sites across Europe. Key activities include colour matching, colourant comparisons, application trials, performance testing and planning and conducting mill trials independently.

You will also work closely with the Technical Director and contribute to application documentation, technical guidance, troubleshooting and feedback to support continuous product and application development.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct application trials, product testing and performance evaluations in laboratory and customer environments.
• Carry out colour matching and colourant comparisons for customer applications.
• Plan and independently conduct mill trials and support technical activities at customer sites.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to customers and the Sales & Marketing team.
• Evaluate application requirements and recommend suitable products or process adjustments.
• Document trial results, technical findings and recommendations in a clear and structured manner.
• Support the preparation of application guidelines, technical materials and product demonstrations.
• Provide technical feedback to R&D based on customer requirements, application performance and market observations.
• Support the Technical Director with activities related to the Cologne site.
• Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, quality and technical documentation.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong technical understanding of chemical applications, preferably in dyes, colourants or related industries.
• Experience in laboratory or production-based application trials, product testing and performance evaluation.
• An eye for colour and an interest in developing expertise in colourant applications.
• Ability to analyse results and communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Customer-oriented approach with the ability to provide technical support and troubleshoot application issues.
• Educational background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field; relevant vocational qualifications may also be considered.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple technical activities.
• Previous experience in colouration or paper production would be an advantage, but is not essential.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations and production facilities across Europe.
• Good written and spoken English and German. Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
• Previous laboratory experience with a strong understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.
