Application Engineer - Optical Metrology
Travel: 30-50% across Europe
We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer - Optical Metrology to support customers across Europe using advanced optical measurement and metrology equipment.
This is a customer-facing technical role combining optical metrology expertise with applications development, system demonstrations and complex technical troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers across Europe, supporting the implementation and use of advanced optical metrology systems.
- Develop and optimise measurement applications to meet specific customer requirements.
- Support customers working with optical metrology, microscopy, spectroscopy and/or interferometry systems.
- Conduct customer demonstrations, system evaluations and technical presentations.
- Install, configure and commission measurement equipment at customer sites.
- Troubleshoot complex optical, measurement and application-related issues.
- Analyse customer measurement data and recommend improvements to measurement methods and system configuration.
- Develop application-specific measurement procedures, test methods and technical documentation.
- Work closely with R&D and engineering teams to communicate customer requirements and drive product improvements.
- Support proof-of-concept studies, trials and evaluation projects with prospective and existing customers.
- Provide technical training and guidance to customers and internal teams.
- Contribute to application notes, technical presentations and customer-facing documentation.
- Support pre-sales activities by providing technical expertise during customer discussions and evaluations.
- Build strong long-term relationships with customers and understand their technical and measurement challenges.
- Travel regularly throughout Europe to support customer projects, demonstrations and installations.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Metrology or a related technical discipline.
- Several years of experience in optical metrology, instrumentation or a related applications engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of at least one of microscopy, spectroscopy, interferometry or optical measurement.
- Experience developing measurement applications and solving customer-specific technical challenges.
- Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience presenting technical solutions and demonstrating complex equipment to customers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with engineering and sales teams.
- Willingness to travel 30-50% across Europe.
