Zusammenfassung

Optimus Search is seeking a Field Service Engineer – Optical & Laser Metrology to install, commission, calibrate and maintain sophisticated optical measurement systems at customer sites across Germany.

The role demands hands-on skill with lasers, optics, precision mechanics and electronics, plus the ability to diagnose faults and perform on-site training and documentation.

Extensive travel (60–70%) to customer sites and collaboration with R&D teams are expected.

Qualifikationen

  • Technical degree or engineering qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience in field service, metrology, photonics or precision engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with lasers, optics and precision mechanics.

Field Service Engineer – Optical & Laser Metrology

Travel: 60–70% across Germany and neighbouring countries

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer – Optical & Laser Metrology to install, commission, calibrate and maintain sophisticated optical measurement systems at customer sites.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role suited to an engineer or technically strong specialist with practical experience in lasers, optics, precision mechanics, electronics and calibration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and configure advanced optical and laser metrology systems at customer sites.
  • Perform system calibration, alignment and performance verification.
  • Diagnose and repair complex optical, mechanical and electronic faults.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, servicing and system upgrades.
  • Align and optimise laser systems and precision optical components.
  • Troubleshoot measurement accuracy, stability and repeatability issues.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and structured fault-finding techniques to identify root causes.
  • Replace, adjust and test optical, electronic and mechanical components where required.
  • Perform customer acceptance testing and ensure systems meet defined performance specifications.
  • Provide on-site technical support and training to customers.
  • Produce detailed service reports, calibration records and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with internal engineering and R&D teams to escalate complex technical issues.
  • Support remote troubleshooting and customer enquiries when required.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and represent the company professionally on-site.
  • Travel approximately 60–70% throughout Germany and neighbouring European countries.

Requirements

  • Technical degree, FH qualification, engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in field service, instrumentation, metrology, photonics, lasers or precision engineering.
  • Practical knowledge of lasers, optics and precision mechanical systems.
  • Experience with calibration, alignment and technical fault finding.
  • Basic to strong understanding of electronics and electrical systems.
  • Ability to diagnose complex equipment problems independently.
  • Strong hands-on approach and willingness to work at customer sites.
  • Good communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Willingness to travel 60–70% across Germany and neighbouring countries.
  • Full driving licence.
