Senior Optical Systems Engineer – Semiconductor Metrology

We are seeking an experienced Senior Optical Systems Engineer to lead the development, integration and optimisation of advanced optical inspection and metrology systems for semiconductor manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of complex optical metrology and inspection systems for semiconductor applications.
• Define optical system architectures, performance requirements and measurement strategies.
• Develop and optimise high-resolution microscopy, imaging and illumination systems for wafer inspection and measurement.
• Lead optical alignment, calibration, characterisation and system optimisation activities.
• Investigate and resolve complex optical and measurement-performance issues using structured root-cause analysis.
• Evaluate system accuracy, repeatability, stability and sensitivity, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Integrate optical, mechanical, electronic and software subsystems into high-performance metrology platforms.
• Develop and validate measurement approaches for demanding wafer-level applications.
• Analyse complex measurement data and use results to improve system performance and measurement capability.
• Establish and maintain system-level test, calibration and validation procedures.
• Work closely with semiconductor process, software, mechanical and electrical engineering teams throughout the product development cycle.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
• Support technology development, prototype evaluation and transition of new optical solutions into production.
• Prepare technical documentation, system specifications, test reports and development plans.
• Interface with internal stakeholders, suppliers and customers on technical requirements and system performance where required.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Imaging Science or a related discipline.
• Several years of hands-on experience developing complex optical systems, preferably within semiconductor metrology or inspection.
• Strong expertise in microscopy, imaging, optical measurement and system integration.
• Demonstrated experience taking optical systems from concept through development, validation and production.
• Strong understanding of optical alignment, calibration, system characterisation and measurement performance.
• Experience troubleshooting complex optical systems and leading technical problem-solving activities.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex measurement data.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and R&D environments.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership.
