Job summary

OpenTable's EU engineering team in London is hiring an Android Engineer on a 12 month fixed-term contract. You will strengthen the infrastructure behind our Kotlin codebase and shape the technical roadmap for data integrations and architecture.

Collaborating across teams, you will build and maintain Android capabilities that support marketing technology initiatives, including attribution and deep linking, to deliver reliable, high-performance experiences for diners and restaurants worldwide.

About the Job

The EU engineering team in London is looking to hire an Android Engineer to join our team on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. In this role, you will work to strengthen the infrastructure behind our app, used by millions of diners worldwide. You will play a crucial role in improving the foundations of a large Kotlin codebase while shaping the technical roadmap for new data integrations and architecture. By collaborating across teams, you will help build and maintain the Android capabilities that support our marketing technology initiatives, including attribution and deep linking. Ultimately, your work will empower restaurants to thrive by creating reliable, high-performance experiences that encourage diners to return time and again.

Note: This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical roadmap of new data integrations, application architecture, and scalability efforts.
• Enhance the core Android app’s architecture to ensure the codebase remains maintainable, scalable, and modern.
• Build, maintain, and optimize marketing technology integrations, including attribution SDKs, measurement tools, and deep linking capabilities.
• Elevate the app’s overall reliability, performance, and testability while simplifying complex areas of the codebase.
• Leverage data and diagnostics to identify potential issues, validate technical improvements, and optimize both end-user and developer experiences.
• Share technical knowledge and help shape best engineering practices across multiple squads.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable, modern, and high-performing Android applications.
• Proven track record of improving the architecture of an established Android app.
• Strong proficiency in writing maintainable Kotlin code with a deep value for testing, reliability, and performance.
• Hands-on experience working with mobile analytics or attribution integrations, such as Firebase or attribution SDKs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, marketing, and data stakeholders, explaining technical decisions clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working across Android applications and the backend services that support them, including server-side Java.
• Passion for enhancing developer experience, infrastructure, and internal tooling.
• Familiarity with creating and contributing to shared Android infrastructure.
• Demonstrated appetite for continually refining the end-user experience through data-driven insights.
