Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer III (DBA) in LATAM to ensure the stability and reliability of production databases (Vitess/MySQL, Cassandra). You will own high-availability architectures, on-call duties, incident response, and drive reliability across the SRE Database Engineering function.

You will design architecture, develop runbooks, and mentor Level 1/2 engineers while collaborating with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud tooling to advance operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of related experience with production databases and SRE.
• Deep hands-on experience with MySQL and distributed or sharded databases.
• Experience with Vitess and Cassandra in production is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and own highly available database architecture for Vitess and Cassandra.
• Document runbooks, escalation guidance, and procedures for Level 1/2 SRE DB Engineers.
• Optimize database performance with tuning, indexing, and schema design.
• Own backup, recovery, replication, and DR strategies.
• Lead DR tests and establish security, patching, and hardening practices.
• Collaborate with DBA/Data Infra teams on resharding and capacity planning.
• DDR incident escalation point for complex DB incidents.
