Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director - Electrical Engineering (Data Centers) for its Medellin office. You will lead electrical system design for data centers, ensuring reliability and scalable power infrastructure, while coordinating with HVAC teams and clients.

The role requires senior engineering experience, proficiency in design tools (AutoCAD, ETAP, DIALux, SKM), and a strong knowledge of industry standards. Excellent English skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering with focus on data center infrastructure and power systems.
• Proficient in designing data center electrical systems, including power distribution, backup power, and emergency systems; strong knowledge of data center Tier Standards.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for data centers, including power distribution, UPS, generators, lighting and grounding.
• Ensure designs prioritize reliability, scalability, and efficiency in mission-critical environments.
• Perform load calculations and capacity planning for IT equipment, cooling and infrastructure.
• Select electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, UPS, breakers, distribution panels) meeting requirements and safety standards.
• Incorporate redundancy and fault-tolerant features (dual feeds, automatic switchover).
• Advance energy efficiency, renewable energy integration and energy storage considerations.
• Coordinate with mechanical/HVAC teams to meet electrical power requirements for cooling.
• Prepare design documentation and specifications for clients, architects and contractors.
• Supervise testing, commissioning and troubleshooting to verify installation and design intent.
• Stay updated on data center trends including DC power distribution and efficiency solutions.
