AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Medellín office as Principal Engineer - Electrical Engineering for Data Centers. The role focuses on design, reliability, and scalability of electrical systems for data center environments, including power distribution, backup power, and coordination with mechanical systems.

The ideal candidate has extensive data center experience, knowledge of industry standards, and proficiency with CAD/ETAP tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering focused on data centers.
• Proficient in designing data center electrical systems (power distribution, backup power, emergency systems).
• Extensive knowledge of data center tier standards (Uptime Institute, TIA-942).
• Experience with arc flash calculations and short circuit coordination.
• Knowledge of electrical/building codes (IBC/NEC/IEEE) and local regs.
• Hands-on with design tools like AutoCAD, ETAP, DIALux, SKM Power Tools.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for data centers emphasizing reliability and scalability.
• Perform load calculations and capacity planning for IT and cooling loads.
• Select and specify electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, UPS, panels).
• Coordinate with mechanical/HVAC for integrated designs.
• Prepare complete design documentation and specifications.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover of electrical systems.
