Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director - Architecture (Data Centers) for our Medellín, Colombia office. You will lead data center design, guide multidisciplinary teams, and drive innovative solutions with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

Professional degree in Architecture with 8+ years of experience in large-scale data-center projects is required. The role emphasizes collaboration, global coordination, and adherence to industry standards across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture (required) and 8+ years dedicated to large-scale data-center design and delivery.
• Expert-level proficiency in design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and BIM tools.
• Extended experience coordinating interdisciplinary teams and contributing to large-scale projects, and collaborating with other departments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead global, multidisciplinary teams and deliver high-scale projects.
• Deep knowledge of data center codes/standards: IBC, NFPA 75 & 76, ASHRAE Thermal Guidelines, Uptime Tier Topology, IEC / IEEE redundancy classifications.
• Ability to perform technical quality reviews and ensure deliverables meet established standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the organization's professional specialist in data center design and delivery.
• Lead innovation in energy efficiency, modular design, and renewable energy integration.
• Develop and implement advanced design methodologies for data center projects.
• Manage architectural programs for data centers, including hyperscale campuses and multi-story colocation facilities.
• Plan and oversee detailed phases of major data center programs, ensuring technical deliverables meet client requirements, project schedules, and budget constraints.
• Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams, including architects, MEP engineers, structural engineers, and commissioning agents.
• Mentor junior architects and design staff in data center-specific design principles, digital delivery workflows, and technical standards.
• Act as a key expert in business development pursuits for data center projects, contributing technical insights, design narratives, and strategic recommendations to secure new opportunities.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to craft proposals, presentations, and design solutions tailored to data center clients.
• Ensure all data center designs meet or exceed industry benchmarks for reliability, scalability, and sustainability.
