Job summary

ABB is seeking a Field Service Engineer to perform on-site service work on electric motors and drives in Colombia and Ecuador. The role requires planning and executing tasks with a first-time-right mindset, while maintaining safety and ABB processes.

You will travel extensively (up to 80%), interact with customers on-site to identify opportunities to optimize operations, and ensure timely, high-quality service delivery. Strong MV drives knowledge and English proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• University degree in Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronic, Electromechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer or Service Engineer.
• Intermediate level of English and willingness to travel 80%.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Passion for problem-solving and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site field service of low to medium complexity on motors and drives.
• Coordinate with customers to identify improvement opportunities and resolve issues.
• Prepare material lists and ensure availability of parts and equipment for service tasks.
• Troubleshoot equipment and processes, conduct analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Work on-site as required and adhere to ABB safety guidelines.

This position reports to: Service Team Leader

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this position, you will have the opportunity to carry out service work of low to medium complexity on electric motors and drives in accordance with work instructions and ABB’s standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines. Each day, you will plan and execute work with a “first-time-right” approach with customers. You will also demonstrate your expertise by showing a clear understanding of urgency and ownership in your area of responsibility.

The work model for this position is: onsite

This role contributes to the Motion Service business area in the Colombian and Ecuadorian market.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Working with the customer (while on-site) to identify opportunities to improve the customer’s operations and eliminate pain points.
• Performing field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and performing analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products.
• Preparing material lists needed for service activity and ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are available and of appropriate quality for service activities.
• Troubleshooting equipment/process failures, requesting proactive corrective actions, and making recommendations to avoid such issues in the future.

Qualifications For The Role

• University degree in Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronic, Electromechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer or Service Engineer.
• Strong knowledge and experience working with low and/or medium voltage drives (mandatory); low and medium voltage motors desirable
• Intermediate level of English.
• Willingness to travel (80% of time).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Passion for problem-solving and teamwork.
