Job summary

ETH Zurich's Advanced Manufacturing Lab seeks a Scientific Assistant to contribute to research in industrial robotics, automated manufacturing, and metrology. The role blends hands-on hardware work with software development to design, implement, and evaluate robotic systems for real-world applications.

You will independently plan experiments, develop robot control software, integrate sensors and tooling, and analyze data to improve positioning accuracy and process quality.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field.
• Hands-on experience programming, operating, or integrating robotic systems.
• Strong programming skills in Python or C++.
• Understanding of robotic kinematics, coordinate transformations, motion planning, and control.
• Experience with sensors, actuators, end-effectors, or tooling.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Fluent English; knowledge of German is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop, program, and operate industrial robotic systems for automated manufacturing.
• Design and implement robotic applications including welding, drilling, and adhesive bonding.
• Integrate robotic hardware and sensing technologies.
• Develop software for robot control and motion planning with tests and deployment workflows.
• Create automated data acquisition and processing workflows for robotics data.
• Integrate metrology to evaluate robot positioning accuracy and process quality.
• Plan and conduct experiments; troubleshoot and evaluate system performance.
• Collaborate with researchers and industrial partners on robotics projects.
