Job summary

ETH Zurich, an established university research group, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own the physical robot’s structure, mechanisms, enclosures and assemblies. You will design for manufacturability, prototype outdoors, and coordinate with electronics and software to ensure robust performance.

You will work closely with workshops and technicians, documenting revisions and build notes to enable rapid future work. Outdoor field days and lake testing are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 0–5 years hands-on experience after degree.
• Background in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics or equivalent practical engineering experience.
• Hardware from concept to tested object with CAD judgement.

Responsibilities

• Own the physical robot: structure, mechanisms, enclosures, mounts and the path from idea to a part that can be built again.
• Design with manufacture, assembly, sealing and service in mind; prove with prototypes and tests outdoors.
• Collaborate with electronics and software on space, heat, cables, and water/vibration challenges.
• Coordinate with workshops, suppliers and technicians to turn drawings into reliable assemblies.
• Leave clear models, revisions and build notes for future speed.
