Job summary

UNICEF seeks a Connectivity Credits Backend Software Engineering Consultant to design, build, test and deploy backend services for a production-grade, multi-country platform. You will implement event-driven workflows, APIs and integrations, collaborating with product and tech teams to drive scalable, secure solutions.

The role requires hands-on back-end work in Python/TypeScript, experience with distributed systems, CI/CD, security, and containerized deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related technical field.
• Minimum three years of professional software development with substantial backend experience.
• Experience building backend services and APIs using Python and/or TypeScript.
• Experience with distributed or service-oriented applications.
• CI/CD and automated testing/deployment experience.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of another UN language is a plus.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and relational data modelling.
• Containerized development and secure coding practices.
• Experience with Kafka or other event streaming platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test and deploy backend components of the Connectivity Credits platform.
• Develop event-driven workflows, rules, and integrations.
• Collaborate with product and tech teams to ensure alignment with architecture.
• Work independently within the agreed architecture and translate requirements into reliable software.
