Job summary

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking an Interpreter to enable accurate and confidential communication in sensitive contexts. The role focuses on real-time oral interpretation between Pashto/Dari speakers and English, within detention settings and IHL-related discussions.

Applicants should have a university degree in interpretation or translation and strong language skills. This mobile, field-based assignment offers exposure to diverse humanitarian operations across

Qualifications

English (C1) proficiency required.
Pashto and/or Dari at C1 level required; Pashto preferred.
Knowledge of additional ICRC languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

Interpret orally from Pashto/Dari to English and vice versa during confidential interviews with people deprived of liberty, ICRC institutional dissemination, and related activities.
Translate Pashto/Dari language materials into written English and vice versa, when needed.
Analyze conditions of detention, security and humanitarian environment, and other matters relating to the ICRC mandate.
Provide support on other protection activities as needed.
