Zusammenfassung

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks an Interpreter to facilitate accurate and meaningful communication in sensitive contexts in Myanmar. You will provide Burmese-English oral interpretation and Burmese-English translation for detainee-related interviews, family tracing, and confidential dialogues, ensuring clarity, respect, and confidentiality.

The role requires 2 years of interpretation/translation experience, fluency in English and Burmese (C1), and openness to humanitarian

Qualifikationen

• Excellent command of English (C1) required.
• Excellent command of Burmese (C1) required.
• Proficiency in other ICRC languages (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese) is an asset.
• 2 years of professional interpretation/translation experience.
• Able to work under pressure in potentially dangerous environment.
• Open-minded and adaptable.
• University education in interpretation/translation is an advantage.

Aufgaben

• Oral interpretation from Burmese to English and vice versa during confidential interviews with people deprived of liberty and other ICRC contexts.
• Written translation from Burmese to English (newspaper articles, correspondence, etc.).
• Analysis and reporting on conditions of detention, security, and other matters related to the ICRC mandate.
• Support on other protection activities as needed.
