Managing Editor

Neo Financial Technologies Inc.
Calgary
CAD 80,000 - 110,000
Job description

Join us to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians

At Neo, we’re on a mission to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians. Life at a rapidly expanding tech startup isn’t for everyone. It’s complex, fast-paced, high-pressure, but also incredibly fulfilling. Since its founding in 2019, Neo has gained incredible traction and is one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in Canada.

  • LinkedIn’s Top Startup in Canada for 2022 and 2023
  • Top-ranked mobile apps and credit cards
  • Team of 700+ people
  • 1M+ customers

The Role

This is your chance to build something from scratch.
We’re launching a bold new content strategy at Neo that brings fresh, clear, and compelling storytelling to financial topics that matter most to Canadians. As our first Managing Editor , you won’t just run a content team. You’ll help define the editorial voice, grow our audience, and build an influential destination from the ground up.

You’ll shape what great content looks like at Neo, create editorial systems that scale, and bring big ideas to life. If you’ve dreamed of having a blank canvas and the backing to build something meaningful—this is that role.

What you'll be doing:

  • Partner with senior leaders to define and deliver a smart, scalable content strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Own the editorial calendar, ensuring a steady cadence of timely, insightful, and search-optimized content across various platforms. (e.g., website, blog, newsletters, social media)
  • Identify content gaps and audience opportunities across Neo’s key verticals (credit, savings, financial literacy, etc.).
  • Keep a pulse on trends, competitors, and cultural moments that Neo should be part of.
Content Production & Quality Control
  • Oversee the end-to-end content process: from pitch to publish.
  • Edit for clarity, voice, accuracy, and SEO—raising the bar for every piece we publish.
  • Maintain editorial standards and ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Review and approve final content across blog, email, social, and more.
  • Lead a nimble team of in-house and freelance writers and editors.
  • Provide clear briefs, feedback, and mentorship to help the team grow and succeed.
  • Cultivate a high-performance culture that values creativity, accountability, and editorial excellence.
  • Help identify and onboard new contributors as we grow.
Workflow & Operational Excellence
  • Build and optimize editorial workflows to ensure we ship high-quality content on time.
  • Solve problems, unblock teammates, and keep content moving forward.
  • Help select and manage the tools, templates, and processes that make our publishing engine hum.
Performance & Insights
  • Track and report on content performance using analytics tools (e.g., GA4, social insights).
  • Use data to guide content strategy, prioritize topics, and sharpen what’s working.
  • Regularly report progress to key stakeholders and adjust strategy based on results.
Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Partner with growth, product, PR, creative, and community teams to align messaging and amplify reach.
  • Ensure content supports broader business goals—from product launches to PR campaigns.

Who we are looking for:

  • A seasoned editorial leader with a sharp editorial eye and a bias for action.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field.
  • Editorial experience
  • Excellent writer and editor who can adapt tone and structure to fit different formats and goals.
  • Proven track record of managing content teams, calendars, and deadlines with precision.
  • Strong grasp of SEO, analytics, and content strategy fundamentals.
  • Experience in fintech, personal finance, or a similarly complex subject area is a plus.
  • Skilled in working across functions and comfortable in a fast-moving, startup environment.

Working at Neo:

The people who thrive at Neo are resourceful, growth-oriented, and driven to win. We hold ourselves to high standards because we’re on a mission that matters: to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians. As individuals and as a team, we constantly challenge ourselves and each other to do our best work for our customers. Our commitment to customer success drives everything we do, from building intuitive products to providing exceptional support at every step of their journey. If this resonates with you, keep reading.

We trust, respect, and support each other. This means honest conversations, constructive input, and continuous support. You’ll be surrounded by people who push you to be your best. We primarily collaborate in person across our Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto offices. As we evolve rapidly, we’re looking for change-makers who thrive on challenge—people who would rather blaze a trail through uncertainty than follow a well-paved path.

All team members have a stake in Neo’s success and earn meaningful equity through stock options. This ownership mindset is at the heart of everything we do — when Neo grows, we all grow. If you’ve heard that Neo employees work hard, it’s true. We hold ourselves accountable for delivering on our commitments to our customers, partners, and each other. Working at Neo means taking ownership of your work and driving results, knowing that your contributions directly impact the company’s success.

Apply with us:

We believe in equal opportunity and are committed to creating an inclusive climate where everyone can thrive. Customers trust us with their finances, so successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a security screening, including a criminal records check and a credit check.

By continuing with your application, you agree to the Candidate Privacy Notice which guides how we process your personal information for the purpose of your application.
