Job description

What will be your role?

Reporting to the Automation Controls Director, the Electrical Engineer will work with the project team to design and develop systems, install (commission), troubleshoot, repair, and program control systems for Marine HVAC (including electrical, algorithm, and software design) for Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems installed in large marine vessels.

The incumbent will play an important role as part of a team to develop products and systems for global projects by embracing new controls/technologies, working with shipyards worldwide to reduce ship cabling and build costs through innovative solutions. The Automation Engineer will also act as the company's “expert” in Electrical Systems during installation (commissioning), troubleshooting, repairing, and programming control systems in vessels.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Design drawings and wiring diagrams under the supervision of the Automation & Controls Manager.
  2. Program and configure PLC and HMI.
  3. Provide input to project planning, assessing time required for engineering and detailed design tasks.
  4. Responsible for end-to-end testing, downloading programming, startup, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects. Test and troubleshoot equipment and network HVAC system controls during commissioning and factory acceptance tests. Perform point-to-point commissioning of sensors and other system inputs.
  5. Support Field Engineers during startup and commissioning.
  6. Update AutoCAD control panel drawings and wiring diagrams under the supervision of the Automation & Controls Director.
  7. Read and interpret control sequence logic from control philosophy documents.
  8. Check calibration of system sensors and transmitters.
  9. Occasionally travel to plant installations and work with customers for startup and commissioning.

What sets you apart?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation.
  • 5+ years of experience in Automation.
  • Experience in drawing panel layouts in AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience with various PLC and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and implementation (Siemens TIA Portal, Logo Controller, Beijer).
  • Autonomous with strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills in automation.
  • Bilingual, with excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 15%.
