Job Description
| The Department of Communication and Performing Arts at the University of the Virgin Islands invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track, teaching position in Multimedia Communication at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in August 2025. The successful candidate will teach lower division courses in communication and develop/or restructure courses to match industry needs.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching 12 hours a semester. Specific duties include teaching, advising and general administrative responsibilities.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching within a comprehensive state university, engagement in student and university service, and the promise of scholarly achievement. In addition to teaching media skills to undergraduate students, the candidate must be able to teach 100- level Communication courses. The candidate will also help advise UVIABJ , the student chapter of NABJ and consult with film/video/photography projects.
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach all multimedia classes at the undergraduate level. Other duties will include promotion and marketing of the Communication Division on a local, national and international level.
Required Qualifications
| Master’s degree in communication or related area. Demonstrated success with video editing and short film production Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in teaching and advising undergraduates Ongoing scholarly productivity, and institutional and departmental service In addition to teaching Theatre to undergraduate students. Portfolio or links to completed projects
Preferred Qualifications
• Distinguished record of achievement in the areas of media/ communication
at the regional, national and/or international level.
• Teaching experience-3-5 years beyond grad assistant university level.
• Demonstrated capacity for effective student engagement/recruitment
• Collegial attitude
• Strong organizational, management, verbal and written communication skills.
