Job description
About Us:

AltaML is a leading North American applied AI company with extensive experience in building and operationalizing AI software solutions.

We are a company like no other – we believe in making small bets, failing fast, and being better together. We are looking for creative problem‑solvers who obsess about the customer to find wins across different industries.

We don’t hire for fit; we hire to add. We are looking for people who play our core values of being: Agile, Gritty, Humble, and Happy. If you’re passionate about AI/ML, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to work with a diverse team of wickedly smart people, we want to hear from you!

The Role:

As a Sr. Account Executive - Public Sector, you will leverage your extensive network in the public sector ecosystem, targeting provincial, municipal, crown, post-secondary and other public sector organizations, to drive sales across Central and Eastern Canada (experience and network in the US public sector is desirable but not essential).

Your primary responsibility will be to acquire and expand public sector customers by successfully positioning and selling Applied AI solutions tailored to public sector organizations, with a key focus of driving business with the Canadian Federal Government. Working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams in sales, marketing, technical development, and delivery, you will secure new clients and nurture existing public sector accounts.

Your expertise in the public sector will be a key success driver in this role as you leverage that knowledge to position AI to address challenges specific to public sector clients such as improving citizen services and operational efficiencies, while advancing their strategic goals.

Your ability to establish yourself as a trusted advisor and senior leader within the public sector will be essential to quickly qualify and grow a sales pipeline. A proven track record of successful selling to executive and C‑suite leaders across the public sector will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Meet or exceed revenue growth and yearly revenue targets for your portfolio.
  • Drive the development of new business and sales opportunities within your designated accounts and regions.
  • Lead and coordinate cross‑functional teams, serving as the primary point of contact for sales activities within targeted public sector accounts.
  • Contribute to the development of new processes, templates, and standards tailored to public sector clients.
  • Build and maintain a diverse portfolio of Public Sector clients to establish sustainable, high‑quality recurring revenue.
  • Advise Public Sector clients on their AI/ML adoption journeys, recommending the best‑fit solutions to meet their business needs and collaborating with internal teams to ensure our clients are delighted.
  • Demonstrate excellence in pipeline management and hygiene within sales and CRM tools.
  • Lead the development of contractual agreements and pricing strategies.
  • Identify and foster partnerships with hyperscalers, consultants, SI, and academic partners to support revenue growth and strengthen solution offerings.
What You Bring:
  • Passion for the impact AI can have within the public sector.
  • 8+ years public sector experience and enterprise B2B sales, ideally with a focus on professional services or AI products.
  • Recognized as a strong leader in the public sector ecosystem in Central Canada, especially in Ottawa with the Federal Government. A network and experience with key US public sector markets is a bonus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with experience leading cross‑functional teams across the sales lifecycle, including discovery, executive advisory, solution architecture, and post‑sales delivery.
  • An established client network in the public sector that enables swift opportunity qualification and pipeline development.
  • Proven success in meeting and exceeding multi‑million‑dollar quotas.
  • A strong knowledge of how AI is and can be applied in a public sector setting.
  • The adaptability and growth mindset essential to success in a fast‑paced tech environment.
  • Superior communication, client relationship management, and negotiation skills. Fluency in French and English is optimal.
  • Experience in organizational change management is a plus.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with a keen ability to align AI solutions with public sector‑specific needs.
Compensation & Logistics:

This posting is for an existing vacancy for a candidate ideally based in Ottawa, Ontario.

The expected compensation for this Senior Account Executive (Public Sector) role is between $130,000 and $150,000 CAD base salary, with on‑target earnings (OTE) up to $300,000 CAD annually, inclusive of base and commission/variable pay. Compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, demonstrated performance in enterprise or mid‑market sales, and alignment with company quota expectations.

Candidates must not be subject to any federal post‑employment restrictions, lobbying prohibitions, or cooling‑off periods that would limit their ability to engage with the Government of Canada, including restrictions arising from prior federal public service or public office‑holder roles.

Responsible AI (RAI)

AltaML employees, contractors, and associates must be trained and well‑versed in the importance of Responsible AI and empowered to enact RAI principles by developing and deploying AI solutions. They should also be empowered to raise and escape RAI concerns as required.

AltaML is responsible for elevating public discourse and awareness of AI through open, transparent communications with the broader public.

AltaML is dedicated to fostering a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace as an equal‑opportunity employer. We welcome applications from qualified individuals of all backgrounds, encompassing ethnicity, religion, disability status, gender identity, sexual orientation, family status, age, nationality, and educational backgrounds.
