This position is based at Vancity Community Investment Bank (VCIB), an Ontario-based subsidiary of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (Vancity). As Canada’s first values-driven bank, VCIB provides banking, investing, and financing solutions to help purpose-driven businesses and organizations create, grow and foster change. At VCIB, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you feel empowered at work. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to using finance as a force for good and doing what’s right for our clients.

About the workplace

As the Senior Business Development Manager, Climate Finance, you will be responsible for building and managing a robust pipeline of climate finance loan opportunities for VCIB. In collaboration with senior leadership, you will lead the origination and structuring of clean energy, energy efficiency, and other climate-related transactions. This role plays a strategic part in shaping departmental direction - identifying priority markets, designing and refining loan products to meet market needs, and fostering strong partnerships across internal teams and external stakeholders.

This is a permanent, full-time role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity Community Investment Bank head office location and your Ontario based home office. Periodically, in-person events or activities will be required of you.

A typical day will involve
  1. Market Strategy & Origination
    • Identify key climate finance markets and develop go-to-market strategies.
    • Stay current on market trends to inform underwriting and strategic innovation.
  2. Business Development
    • Lead both inbound and outbound efforts: meet with prospective borrowers, represent the organization at conferences, and contribute to thought leadership.
    • Cultivate and manage a pipeline of high-impact lending opportunities.
    • Maintain and grow relationships with industry groups, third-party service providers, syndicate lenders, and referral partners.
  3. Deal Structuring & Execution
    • Lead lending activities from structuring to close, including drafting term sheets, preparing credit applications, and overseeing due diligence.
    • Manage client relationships throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  4. Team Leadership
    • Provide coaching and oversight to Associates and Analysts on underwriting, financial modeling, and analysis.
    • Work closely with Treasury, Credit Risk, and Marketing to align on growth objectives and streamline transaction processes.
You Have
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in business development, project finance, or climate-related lending.
  • Proven track record in originating and closing complex financial transactions.
  • Strong financial modeling and credit underwriting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with climate finance instruments and ESG frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of climate finance markets, regulatory trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), Excel, and financial analysis platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills for managing internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client engagement, internal presentations, and external representation.
You Are
  • A problem solver – You have an analytical mind and can multi-task to come up with solutions
  • A great communicator – You find it easy to get to know others and have great conversations
  • Ready for a challenge – You have a positive attitude and are able to work in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Resourceful – You understand and utilize the network of resources available to you and can independently formulate appropriate solutions for your members
  • A strong relationship builder - You find it easy to get to know others and build trust

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don’t perfectly align with those listed.
