Senior Mine Engineer

Lead and coordinate mine engineering deliverables for Côté Gold. Oversee mine planning, surveying, drill & blast, mine design, projects and forecasting. Report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives. Provide technical expertise, support, coaching and training to the mine engineers and technicians.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties

• Area 1: Develop and provide leadership to the team. Lead by example; actively engage in recruiting, and develop a diverse team of engineers and technicians in accordance with the organizational design strategy; build and lead a dynamic team focused on planning, data analytics, effective communication and continuous improvement; create space for your team to be effective in delivering results and foster an inclusive work environment; ensure current and future training requirements are met, and develop clear progression paths for the team; mentor and coach team members to impart best practices in all mine engineering activities; promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.
• Area 2: Lead and oversee the technical production of designs, schedules, drawings and forecasts. Lead and coordinate mine engineering activities including planning, design, surveying and drill and blast; coordinate inputs from Exploration, Geology, Mine Operations and Mill Operations to produce effective plans and designs; analyze and interpret mine plan and mine design to ensure alignment with operational objectives; oversee data and statistical inputs from survey results, recovery results, etc. to adjust plan accordingly; control and monitor the work of mining activities by checking progress on the field, compliance with plans and specifications, and analyzing results; perform technical and economic analysis of mine plans and designs; assist the Mine Technical Superintendent in developing the business case and LOM; evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions; prepare reports and written materials related to technical recommendations and improvements to the mine plan and mine design; other duties as required (e.g., monthly reporting, scheduling and budgeting).
• Area 3: Lead others in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities. Seek and implement best-in-class practices; harness the advantages of the automated mining system and ensure technology is integrated into design and planning; propose new methods to meet challenges of mine engineering; identify training and development opportunities for the team; keep abreast of trends in mine engineering and share with Côté Gold; provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards; continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills; conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.

Minimum Requirements and Nice-to-Haves

Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

• Post-secondary degree in Mine Engineering or a related field is required.
• Registration (or eligibility to be registered) as an Engineer in Ontario (PEO).

Work Experience – Nature & Length

• A minimum of 10 years of related work experience, with at least 3 years of related leadership experience.
• Previous experience in open pit mining is considered an asset.

• Proficiency in computer applications and mining software.
• A valid Ontario driver's license is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
