About the position
Duties

Working under the supervision of the Interpretation Officer/Coordinator, the Heritage Presenter delivers interpretive presentations, programs, activities, and special events that engage visitors in the learning, enjoyment, connection to and appreciation of the cultural and natural heritage of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal and Baawaating region. The Heritage Presenter will also contribute to positive visitor experiences through responding to visitor inquiries, directing visitors to sources of information and services, attending to the visitor centre gift shop and service desk using a Point of Sale system, and contributing to social media and website content.

Work environment

Nestled beneath the International Bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal was built to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. Opened in 1895, the canal completed an all-Canadian waterway featuring the longest lock in the world and the first to operate using electricity.
Known as Baawaating, this region holds profound significance as home and sacred gathering place for Indigenous peoples. The dedicated Visitor Experience team at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal strives to convey the narratives of innovation and historical significance to all those who engage with this culturally rich site.
Diversity and inclusion are at the core of our values. Diverse teams bring different perspectives and creative ideas that benefit our clients, the communities we serve and all of us as colleagues.
