Opportunity

As a professional member of our growing FAAS team, you will have the exciting prospect of bringing our FAAS team’s service to the Financial Services sector, including Banking, Capital Markets and Wealth Management and Pension funds.

We understand the evolving role of the CFO and the Finance function, and you will work with our clients to achieve better insights and control outcomes, optimize their performance and use of scarce resources, and guide them through complex accounting, regulatory, disclosure or other transformation initiatives under the CFO’s agenda.

In doing so, you will be a member of, and be able to draw upon a vast network of high caliber professionals, combined with our significant knowledge, tools, technological solutions and cumulative practical experience.

Your key responsibilities

As a FAAS – FSO Senior, you will actively establish, maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships. You will help to develop and expand long‑term client relationships and networks, as well as develop relationships with team members across all EY practices to service client needs. By drawing on your relationship‑building skills, project management, and financial knowledge and experience, you and your team will provide innovative commercial insights for clients by adapting proven industry delivery methods and practices to meet clients’ organizational needs. You will actively contribute to seeking pragmatic solutions to our client’s most pressing challenges, whether around financial or regulatory reporting, disclosures, regulatory capital, and reporting challenges, or to improve financial performance by evaluating data integrity and quality, operational and reporting efficiency, and effective decision‑making. You will be expected to support Finance leaders in addressing their challenges across all areas of the finance function. Some of your time may be spent supporting local business development activities and client engagement teams, working with a wide variety of clients within the FSO sector to deliver professional services.

Client responsibilities
  • Assist in external client consulting engagements involving the advancement of the CFO agenda for the Financial Services Office.
  • Assist with finance transformation initiatives, focusing on the integration of technology to modernize the finance function within financial services organizations.
  • Assist with the assessment of current financial processes and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Follow project plans, timelines, and deliverables to ensure successful implementation of transformation projects.
  • Assist with business development initiatives including service offering development and roll‑out, proposal development, responding to RFX’s and participating in oral presentations.
  • Staying abreast of current business, industry and regulatory trends relevant to the client’s business and overall local industry.
  • Build strong internal relationships within our national and global FAAS practice and across EY’s service lines, including Advisory, Tax and Transactions.
What we look for
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in the banking and capital markets industry.
  • Some exposure to:
    • Prudential regulatory rules applicable to financial institutions in Canada.
    • Working knowledge of capital infrastructure (data, systems, models, management and reporting) and management of key metrics.
    • Planning, budgeting, forecasting and stress testing processes.
    • Performance measurement and management concepts.
    • Process transformation and improvement methodologies.
    • Business performance reporting process.
    • Key accounting standards relevant to financial institutions, including IFRS 9, IAS 39 and IAS 32.
    • Financial accounting and financial statement close process.
    • Project and change management methodologies.
  • Proven track record with a blue‑chip consulting firm in the field – advantageous.
  • Experience in leading and delivering Finance transformation program/projects that cover the full life cycle of assessment, design and implementation support.
  • Leading and driving high‑quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget.
  • Knowledge and working experience on business processes.
  • The ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Dedication to teamwork, people development and leadership, with experience in managing and/or mentoring junior staff and providing direction to team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with an ability to think critically and identify creative solutions outside of the box and thrive on new challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation.
  • A high level of motivation and a self‑starting attitude.
  • A willingness to travel on short notice to meet client needs.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • The ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, dynamic team‑oriented environment.
